Wolf Haven

Annie Marie Musselman was given the rare opportunity to photograph the wolves at the Wolf Haven sanctuary near Mount Rainier. The wolves here have been injured and captured from the wild, while others were (illegally) raised in confinement. Some of the pups will be raised with the intention of releasing them into the wild. Human contact is very limited, so the images captured by Musselman express a wild spirit that is very different than anything seen in domesticated animals. Brenda Peterson’s text will put the stories of the residents of Wolf Haven, of wolves in North America, into context as she describes the behavioural patterns and social structure of wolf packs. The present wolf narrative is about the attempts to pull this species back from the edge of extinction and new ways humans are finding to coexist with these wild animals.
